The perk system adds a welcome layer of depth to the gameplay, bringing it some advancement satisfaction that you'd get in Dishonored or Far Cry and not from Call of Duty or Battlefield. If you prefer maximum stealth-kills over anything else, you'll unlock the stealth skills much quicker than anything else. If you're an all-rounder that likes getting headshots with pistols, sneaky stealth-kills and full-on machinegun mayhem, you'll advance through each skill-set at roughly the same pace. This is a good system as you don't pick a manual class or anything at the beginning, you simply play the game your way, how you normally play a shooter, and your gameplay style will be rewarded accordingly with appropriate skills. Carry out enough stealth kills, for example, and you'll unlock the ability to throw a knife and silently kill a Nazi from a distance with it. You unlock a new skill by completing various achievements. The skills or 'perk' system is more interesting and unusual for your usual single-player first-person shooter. The second is self-explanatory and similar to how the feature is implemented in several other shooters, although it is a feature that makes a big difference to the core gameplay. The two biggest differences that I noticed are an RPG-style skill-tree system and a lean mechanic. The latest hands-on session I had with it was by far the longest - its full first three hours - and a number of improvements have been made to the gameplay since I last had a jam. It's been a joy playing different demos of the upcoming Wolfenstein: The New Order and seeing it evolve into an increasingly better game.
